Can Grief and Joy Co-Exist?

I recently sat down with Dr. Jan Lundy, Founder and Director of The Metta Center which specializes in Grief Companionship. We connected on her podcast, "Little Losses Everywhere (and some big ones, too."

Many people believe when it comes to loss and the grief that follows happiness and joy cannot, maybe even should not, be experienced.


I was eager to talk with Jan about this. It's not uncommon for joy to be seen either as fluff or something that should be automatic. Many people feel uncomfortable with our modern-day definitions of joy - something we talk about a bit on the episode.


If you've began interacting with my book Abundant Joy, you may have caught on to the fact that we can define joy on a continuum, moving from a sense of deep peace to the ecstatic notions we've come to identify with the word, and in this episode we cover a number of ways that each of us have approached grief and loss in our lives.
